The Boston mayor race results for the 2013 race are coming in, as city councilor John Connolly conceded to state Rep. Martin Walsh.
Connolly says he came up short but is proud of his campaign.
The two Democrats were vying to replace outgoing mayor Thomas Menino.
With 200 percent of precincts reporting:
Walsh: 51.55 percent (72,514 votes)
Connolly: 48.06 percent (67,606 votes)
Turnout was brisk Tuesday as voters cast ballots in an election that for the first time in two decades didn’t include Menino’s name in the top spot.
The 46-year-old Walsh relied on support from labor organizations to help his get-out-the-vote drive.
Walsh was a union official before being elected to the Massachusetts House in 1997.
Connolly made education his core issue and was hoping an “army of moms” that appeared with him at campaign events would help propel him to the mayorship. The 40-year-old father of three was the only candidate to enter the race before Menino announced he wouldn’t run again.
