Batman  will actually be titled The Dark Knight Rises, director Christopher Nolan told the Los Angeles Times on Wednesday.

The movie’s title hints at the idea that Nolan wants to tie the latest movie to the previous two movies that he directed. “We’ll use many of the same characters as we have all along, and we’ll be introducing some new ones,” he said to the Times.

Rumors have swirled about who the villain would be, with some reports saying that the Riddler could make a comeback. Joseph Gordon-Levitt, who appeared in Nolan’s most recent film, Inception, was linked to the role.

But Nolan put it bluntly, “It won’t be the Riddler,” he told the Times.

The main villain for the third Nolan-directed Batman movie hasn’t been decided yet.

Nolan noted that the film will not be shot in 3D and instead will use high definition and IMAX cameras.

Nolan, 40, has gained critical acclaim as well as commercial success. First, he directed the mind-bending thriller Memento in 2000, for which he perhaps got the most praise of his career.

He directed The Dark Knight in 2009. It is the seventh-highest grossing film of all time.
