Oakland’s Coco Crisp singled home Derek Norris in the bottom of the 12th inning Sunday giving Oakland (51-44) a walkoff 5–4 win and a four-game series sweep of the Yankees (57-38) for the first time since 1972.
All four losses were by one run and each of the last three were decided in the late innings.
In Sunday’s tilt the Yankees used six pitchers with C.C. Sabathia starting the game and lasting seven innings, giving up three runs while striking out six.
Cody Eppley took the loss, coming on in relief of Clay Rapada with one out in the twelfth. Eppley gave up a single to Norris who was then sacrificed to second by Jemile Weeks before Crisp’s game-winning single.
The first-place Yankees, who’ve watched their once-comfortable lead suddenly shrink to six games, will travel up to Seattle for a three-game set starting Monday.
