Amanda Knox, the American student who was convicted in Italy for killing her roommate, isn’t the only one in her family in trouble with the Italian courts: her parents on Tuesday were indicted on libel charges in relation to the case.

CNN reports that Curt Knox, her father, and Edda Mellas, her mother, gave an interview to the Sunday Times in 2008 during their daughter’s trial, which is the basis for the indictment.

Her parents say that she was verbally and physically abused at the hands of Italian officials during her questioning. In the interview in question, Amanda Knox’s parents were relating what their had daughter told them, that she “had not been given an interpreter, had not received food and water and had been physically and verbally abused,” CNN reported.

“Yes, I am going to trial for libel ... along with one of my lawyers and a group of journalists,” Mellas said, according to CNN Tuesday.

Knox, 23, is currently appealing her sentence for the murder of Meredith Kercher. She was sentenced in 2009 and received 26 years in prison. Her appeal says the forensic evidence used to convict her was not reliable, AFP reported.

Her next hearing is slated for March 12.
