Bocelli and Groban have known one another for years. They first met when Groban was just a teenager; Bocelli, by virtue of a delayed flight, inadvertently helped propel his young fan to the dizzying heights of international fame he has since achieved.

“I owe so much to an early opportunity I had,” Groban shared on his official website. “I was 17 and in high school and asked to be a stand-in singer for Andrea when he was stuck on a plane for the Grammys rehearsals.”

“A terrified, pimple-faced and blissfully naive kid sang his heart out that afternoon and the rest is history,” the singer continued. “Meeting him backstage when he finally arrived I just thought, ‘How cool is this? What a world this is.’

“I didn’t have an inkling where my life would take me after that,” Groban added.

Referring to his critically acclaimed collaboration with Bocelli as “a duet almost 20 years in the making,” Groban continued: “This song, aptly titled ‘We Will Meet Once Again,’ is one of my favorites I’ve ever co-written and recorded. It has so much meaning to me.

“Last night in the stunning setting of Portovenere we sang it for an audience for the first time,” he explained. “Here’s to more full circle surprises. They don’t come easy or often, but they sure are fun.”

The moving duet appears on Groban’s 2018 album, “Bridges,“ and also on Bocelli’s Grammy-nominated album, ”Sì.” For Bocelli’s album, the entire piece is sung in Italian; Groban’s version translates some of the lyrics into English.

The duet represents a poignant reunion for both musicians as well as a breathtaking example of the beautiful music that can be created when two such powerful voices come together. Bocelli and Groban together singing is a performance to remember.
