A woman is dead after a “brutal” murder, allegedly at the hands of her former partner.

The body of the 28-year-old was found in a home in Forbes, New South Wales (NSW), shortly after concerns for welfare were raised with police in the state’s central west about 2am on Monday, April 22.

Initial inquiries led police to a property 100km away in Fifield, where a 29-year-old man was arrested.

“Both persons have known each other,” Detective Inspector Jason Darcy told reporters.

“It was ... a former domestic relationship.”

Police said the woman was a child care worker and her own child was found safe at another address in Forbes.

Mr. Darcy described the killing as “brutal” and said it had left the woman’s family devastated.

“Naturally they’re just distraught,” he said.

The arrested man was charged on Monday afternoon, April 22, with domestic-violence-related murder and breaching a restriction in an apprehended violence order.

He was remanded in custody ahead of a future court date.
