A woman left in a serious condition following an attempted murder in Brantham, Suffolk, has died.

Police were called by the East of England Ambulance Service at about 8 a.m. on Wednesday to reports that a woman had been found injured and unconscious on a track near Rectory Lane, Brantham.

Anita Rose, 57, left her house at approximately 5 a.m. to take her dog, a Springer Spaniel, for a walk in the village, said police in a statement to The Epoch Times.

At around 6:25 a.m., Ms. Rose was found unconscious by a member of the public lying on a track road near a sewage works and railway line.

Ms. Rose was taken to Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge for treatment but died on Sunday morning.

A 45-year-old man was arrested on Sunday afternoon on suspicion of attempted murder and was taken to Martlesham Police Investigation Centre for questioning.

The man was later re-arrested on suspicion of murder.

A woman, 37, from the Ipswich area was also arrested on Sunday on suspicion of handling stolen goods in connection with the incident and was also taken to the Martlesham centre for questioning.

The pair have since been released on police bail with conditions to return on Oct. 25.

Police said Ms. Rose’s iPhone that had been missing had now been located and recovered.

The victim’s distinctive pink zip-jacket that she was believed to be wearing was still missing.

Detective Superintendent Mike Brown of Suffolk Police said in a statement to The Epoch Times: “This is a very serious incident following which Anita has now sadly died of her injuries.

“The family continue to be supported by specially trained police officers as part of the investigation.”

The crime scene has now been lifted on Rectory Lane, however, Mr. Brown said the investigation to establish the full circumstances surrounding the attack continues.

“Whilst searches and house to house enquiries take place, we are keen to speak to anyone who saw anything on Wednesday that they think might be useful to the police investigation and anyone living in the area that has CCTV or doorbell cameras,” Mr. Brown said.

‘Loved in the Community’

Suffolk Police issued a statement on behalf of Ms. Rose’s family on Sunday, saying: “Our mum was well known and loved in the community.

“She was brutally taken from us devastatingly too early, and we have been robbed of so much time with her.”

“She wasn’t just a mum of six, she was also a grandma to 13, a long-term partner, a mother-in-law and a special friend to so many,” the family said.

“Someone somewhere must know something, and we urge them to come forward.”

They family thanked the public for their ongoing support, reminding people to “cherish their time with their family and loved ones.”
