A toddler was killed by a suicidal man who landed on him after he jumped out of a window of his eighth-floor flat.
Both the young boy and the man died from their injuries despite paramedics’ efforts to save them.
Neighbor Sergey Borisov said the boy’s mother, Anna Polishchuk, was still inside saying goodbye to her parents when the incident occurred, reported the newspaper.
“I heard a loud thump. Then the boy’s mother rushed out,” Borisov told the newspaper. “She ran to the ambulance where paramedics were seeking to save the child, and understood everything instantly.”
“I had to shut my windows because there was so much agonizing pain in her screams,” Borisov continued.
“I just couldn’t bear hearing them.”
Senior paramedic Vitaly Reznikov confirmed that a man who committed suicide fell on top of the boy crumpling him.
“The toddler crumpled from the strength of the hit. We tried to reanimate his heart and lungs," Reznikov said, reported the newspaper.
“The boy died inside the ambulance,” he added.
The 39-year-old man was identified as Yevgeny, who was a construction worker and neighbor of Polishchuk’s family, was living one floor below them. Neighbors were familiar with the family.
A police spokeswoman said they are now investigating why the man committed suicide.
“We are checking if he could have been drunk, or if there were other reasons that made him do this,” the police spokeswoman said, reported Mirror.
Social media users from all around the World left sympathetic comments on the mother’s Facebook page showing support to her family.
