Tim Hortons is trying something new for the long weekend in Ontario’s cottage country: its first-ever “Boat-Thru.”

You read that right. You will be able to paddle or sail or boat up to a Tim Hortons Boat-Thru for a selection of free beverages—but only at one location.

The company says the Boat-Thru will be open at the Beacon Marina on Lake Scugog on Aug. 5 and 6.

“Various watercraft are welcome to pull up to the Tims Boat-Thru, including motorized boats, canoes, kayaks, or even paddleboards,” said a company news release.

The company says the Boat-Thru will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

“The summertime Tims Run is an iconic Canadian tradition that’s a must do when you’re gathering with family and friends,” said Chief Marketing Officer Hope Bagozzi in the news release.

“Canadians savor every moment of their long weekends—so we thought why not open our first-ever Tims Boat-Thru so our guests on Lake Scugog don’t miss a minute on the water.”

The company says the Boat-Thru will offer a selection of free cold beverages from its summer drink lineup. However, there is a limit of six beverages per boat.

While a drive-through for boats is a novel idea, it is not completely unique. For example, McDonald’s has a boat-thru restaurant in a canal just off the Elbe River in Germany. It’s not quite the same, but you can boat up to a dock and you are served.

Tim Hortons has more than 4,000 restaurants around the country, and worldwide, the company has more than 5,000 restaurants.

Lake Scugog is northeast of Toronto, around 95 kilometers by car.
