A Thai millionaire who had offered $310,000 (10 million Thai Baht) to the man who ends up marrying his daughter, canceled the offer and rejected a potential suitor whom his daughter liked because he was “too handsome.”
Rodthong is looking for a good husband for his youngest, 26-year-old daughter, Karnsita Rodthong, who has an accounting degree and supports her father with the family business.
“Doesn’t have to be that smart, they just have to be able to read and write (please don’t bring your degrees to cluster the house).
“Hardworking and not lazy.
“Stingy about money and loves durian.”
Rodthong’s Facebook post was deleted on March 5. The millionaire had stated that he was serious about his offer.
“I don’t want anyone as rich as me either, because I will give my son-in-law all my assets,” he had said.
About 10,000 men applied to Rodthong’s offer and 28-year-old Premyosapon Khongsai emerged as the favorite on social media.
Khongsai’s response to Rodthong’s post had earned 14,000 likes in a single day. “I’m interested. I am 28 years old. My family also grows Durian in Trat province. We have over 300 trees… I can weather the sun and the rain. I can drive a 10-wheel truck and tractor. Please consider me, father Anon. Thank you,” he wrote, according to Coconuts Bangkok.
Karnsita liked Khongsai and said he is “pretty cute,” reported The Straits Times. However, Rodthong found him “too handsome” and disapproved of him.
“Premyosapon doesn’t pass for me because he is too handsome. He might break my daughter’s heart,” he said according to The Straits Times.
On March 6, Rodthong called off his offer, saying that it was disturbing his family and business. Karnsita said she didn’t find it amusing after it went viral.
The millionaire father, however, said he will keep all the gifts for his future son-in-law.
The Straits Times quotes local media saying that Rodthong may face legal trouble if his offer is found to just be a publicity stunt.
