People saving for their first home could be in their own property years sooner under a proposal to allow Australians to access their superannuation for housing, a study has found.

A report from economists Peter Tulip and Matt Taylor found using super for housing could increase the home ownership rate from 66 to 70 percent, allowing the median homebuyer to purchase a home three years earlier than they would otherwise.
