Ontario’s sunflower fields offer an invitation to summer adventures and exploration.

Providing a bright and beautiful photo backdrop for fun mazes and more, here are some of the top sunflower farms and festivals to visit in the province.

Brantwood Farms

Located in Brantford and operating since 1891, Brantwood Farms offers a memorable experience for the whole family. With thousands of sunflowers in bloom, visitors can enjoy a wagon ride out to the fields, pick sunflowers to take home, take part in yard games, or enjoy the play area. For those looking to capture a sparkling photo, the farm has a colourful cut flower field for just the right pose.

The Apple Orchid

With 15 years of farming experience, the owners of The Apple Orchid started the farm to give back to the community. Located near Hamilton, the farm has hundreds of thousands of sunflowers in bloom from late July into August, according to its website. Visitors can enjoy walking through the sunflower fields, picking apples, partaking in a wagon ride, wondering through the corn maze, and having fun in the play area. Pets are welcome, but must be kept on a leash.

Rounds Ranch

Located outside of Barrie, Rounds Ranch has been growing since it first opened in 2002. Designed to give visitors an understanding and appreciation of farming life, the 125-acre farm has a sunflower experience in August, where guests can see 44 varieties of sunflowers. Visitors are invited to pick their own flowers to take home, ride the slip n’ slide to cool off, or enjoy the corn maze. Tickets are also available for a pony or horse ride while at the farm.

Wynn Farms

What started as a pick-your-own apple orchid 35 years ago has grown into a farm like no other in picturesque Greater Napanee. Wynn Farms has a sunflower festival in August where guests can enjoy the bright blooms, along with activities for kids, including a bouncy castle, sand pit, face painting, sunflower photo-ops, and a pick-your-own sunflower experience. Picnic tables are also set up around the farm. Pets are permitted but owners are asked to keep animals on a leash.

Sunridge Sunflower Festival

Dubbed the largest annual summer festival in the Almaguin area, the Sundridge Sunflower Festival will be held in the village of Sundridge on the shores of Lake Bernard on Aug. 10. The event features live music, family and children’s activities, and a street market with more than 200 vendors. A dog show will also take place at the festival. Visitors can enjoy exhibits from the astronomy club and reptiles adventure camp, as well as face painting, a magician, and two bouncy castles.

Erin Hill Acres

With a focus on helping visitors get the best photo opportunity in the sunflower fields, Erin Hill Acres in Hillsburgh offers unique delights. From a grand baby piano in the middle of the field to furry highland cows, a trip to these sunflower fields is like no other. The farm also has a play area where kids can enjoy tube slides, kid-sized tractors, and a sand box.

Davis Family Farm

To celebrate its sunflowers, the Davis Family Farm hosts a festival from July 27 to Aug. 18. Visitors can take a three-kilometre walk through acres of bright blooming sunflowers. Located just 30 minutes from Toronto in Caledon, the farm is full of photo-fun opportunities with pink couches scattered around the field for a unique shot. It also has a piano in the middle of the sunflower field, and several picnic spaces to enjoy.
