RCMP in Saskatchewan are investigating after several suspicious devices were discovered in mailboxes in communities around the Saskatoon area.

Police said they received a report that several mailboxes had been broken into and “suspicious objects” left in them on July 7, near Sunset Estates in the Rural Municipality of Blucher, east of Saskatoon.

Police determined that one of the mailboxes had been damaged by an explosive device.

Around 9:50 a.m. on July 8, Saskatoon RCMP received a similar report of a device placed in a mailbox in the Rural Municipality of Cormon Park, west of Blucher.

An RCMP spokesperson told The Epoch Times in an email that their investigation found the devices to be “modified fireworks.”

Police said seven devices were placed in mailboxes, and six were detonated, causing damage to the mailboxes.

Two additional damaged mailboxes were located by police, the email said. All mailboxes were east of Saskatoon in Blucher and Corman Park between Highway 16 and Highway 5.

No injuries were reported, according to the release.

Police said the fireworks won’t detonate unless lit and don’t pose a threat. Saskatchewan RCMP’s Explosive Disposal Unit is assisting Saskatoon RCMP in the ongoing investigation.

Anyone with information is asked to call Saskatoon RCMP at 310-RCMP (7267) or Crime Stoppers, 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
