Alarming reports of fire ants “rafting” through floodwaters have prompted a border crackdown in an attempt to stop the spread of the global super pest.

New South Wales (NSW) has put in place a one-month ban on the movement of hay from fire ant-affected areas in southeast Queensland in the fallout from tropical cyclone Alfred.
