A senior constable accused of assaulting, stalking and raping a Sydney woman has been hit with another allegation of sexual assault.

Jonathan Charles Bettles was arrested while on mental health leave in September last year and faces 22 charges in the Local Courts.

He has been accused of a myriad of offences committed against his alleged victim between June 2019 and August 2021 including punching her in the head, knocking her unconscious, crushing her between a door and a wall and stomping on her foot.

The 36-year-old police officer has more recently been hit with a charge of sexual intercourse without consent adding to an existing charge of aggravated sexual assault where he was said to have inflicted actual bodily harm on his victim.

These two charges relate to an incident in September 2019 in the suburb of Bankstown in Sydney’s southwest.

The Bonnyrigg man has also been accused of destroying the woman’s gyprock wall and a Napoleon make-up bag and inciting her to give false evidence to police after she rang triple zero.

Bettles briefly appeared in Burwood Local Court by video link on Wednesday wearing prison greens from custody.

His matter has been adjourned until April 3 after his lawyer Rose Cetin told the court she had yet to receive the full brief of evidence.

Police are also seeking an apprehended violence order against him to protect the alleged victim.

No pleas have been made at this stage.

NSW Police have said Bettles’ employment status is under review.
