A Canadian recall has been issued for several varieties of MadeGood granola bars due to the “very small risk” they may contain metal fragments, the company that manufactures them has announced.
Riverside Natural Foods issued the voluntary recall Dec. 9, citing the potential presence of metal in the product, which could pose a safety risk if eaten.
“There is a very small risk that some of our granola bar products made between January and November 2024 may contain a piece of metal,” the company said in a statement on its website. “There have been no reports of injury; we’re initiating this recall out of an abundance of caution.”
The company said it has addressed the source of the potential metal contamination and is conducting the voluntary recall “with the knowledge of regulatory authorities.”
Granola bars included in the recall are chocolate banana, chocolate chip, chocolate drizzled, cookies and creme, mixed berry, and strawberry. A variety pack has also been recalled.
The full list of recalled products can be found here.
Consumers can return all affected products to the store where they were purchased for a refund, the company said.
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has yet to issue a recall for MadeGood granola bars, but it has issued several recall advisories for other products that could potentially contain pieces of metal.
The CFIA recall notices have been linked to the ongoing Sifto salt recall in Canada that has impacted a variety of breads, baked goods, and frozen food products. Sifto brand Hy·Grade Salt was first recalled by CFIA on Oct. 30.
Several brands of bagels were recalled last week and a major recall was issued last month for a number of different bread brands sold in Ontario, Quebec, and Newfoundland and Labrador. A total of 37 products from Country Harvest, Deli World, D'Italiano, Giant Value, Great Value, No Name, President’s Choice, and Wonder were listed in the Nov. 4 advisory.
Other recalls linked to Sifto salt include pita bread products; Stuyver’s brand bread; Les Croissants d'Olivier brand French bread; Tartistes baked goods; Olymel, Compliments, Great Value, Janes, no name, and Sisco frozen breaded chicken products; salted butter from Baxter and Saputo; Winkler’s breakfast sausage and turkey thighs; La Fernandière sausages; and McCain potato products.
