LONDON—A police officer accused of having links with an organised crime group has made his first appearance in court.
Adam Davies, 28, resigned from Surrey Police in October 2021 following an investigation by the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC).
Mr. Davies, who had been based in Guildford, appeared at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, charged with eight counts of misconduct in public office.
The charges relate to the allegedly unlawfully accessing of information on Surrey Police’s computer systems “without a policing purpose” and “providing information to an organised crime group.”
Not Required to Enter a Plea
No details were given in court about the organised crime group or the charges he faces and Mr. Davies was not required to enter a plea.District Judge Louisa Cieciora told him his case would be next listed at Southwark Crown Court on Sept. 13 and remanded him on unconditional bail.
She told Mr. Davies, who lives in Farnham, Surrey he had to inform the authorities if he changed his address.
The IOPC published a press release on Monday in which they said, “Following a referral from Surrey Police we began our directed investigation in January 2021, which was conducted by Surrey Police’s anti-corruption unit under our direction.”
“In February 2022 the investigation was completed and a file of evidence was sent to the Crown Prosecution Service which authorised the charges,” the IOPC added.
