Airport parking service Park'N Fly has announced that a major data breach occurred within its network last month, resulting in unauthorized access to the personal files of one million customers.
A third party infiltrated the Park'N Fly network through illicit remote VPN access between July 11 and July 13, but the financial information of customers was not accessed, the company said in an emailed statement.
“Immediately upon discovering this event, Park’N Fly’s Information Technology team launched an investigation along with the cyber security partner to assess what types of information may have been accessed,” the company said, adding that all platforms were fully restored within five days.
“We can confirm with certainty that no customer credit cards or passwords are stored on our servers and no payment information was compromised.”
Compromised information could consist of customer names, email and mailing addresses, as well as Aeroplan and CAA account numbers, Park’N Fly said. The company has contacted all customers whose information may have been impacted.
“At Park’N Fly, the trust and security of our customers are paramount,” Park’N Fly Canada CEO Carlo Marrello said in the statement. “While we deeply regret any concern this incident may have caused, we want to reassure our valued customers and partners that we are taking all necessary steps to safeguard their information. We remain committed to transparency and will continue to prioritize the integrity of our systems as we navigate this situation.”
The company says it has since increased security surveillance through its cyber security partner and has updated the anti-virus software used across its network. It has also taken several “technical and administrative steps” to upgrade its network security.
Park'N Fly operates airport-area parking facilities in Edmonton, Halifax, Montreal, Ottawa, Toronto, Vancouver, and Winnipeg, according to the company website. The app offers travellers valet and self-park airport parking and shuttle services.
The headquarters of the Canadian airport parking operator is located in Mississauga, Ont. The firm is the sole national operator of off-airport parking facilities in Canada and is owned by CK Hutchison Holdings, a Hong Kong conglomerate.
Previously owned by BRL Realty, RNE Realty and Park'N Fly Partnership, the company was acquired in May 2014 for $397.5 million.
CK Hutchison Holdings has operations in Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom, Continental Europe, Australia, New Zealand, and China.
