A part-time model has died after suffering a brain hemorrhage while singing karaoke.
Marketing consultant Karen Stella Wong, 28, was singing with her friends at a karaoke lounge in Singapore on Dec. 12 when one side of her body suddenly went numb and her head began to ache.
The newspaper reported that Wong had died from bleeding in her brain, referred to as acute intracerebral hemorrhage.
Her father said there was no family history of the condition.
“No one in our family has any history of acute intracerebral hemorrhage. Once in a while, she would get a headache like normal people do,” he said.
Under Singaporean law, the family was forced to donate Wong’s liver and both her kidneys.
Singapore’s Human Organ Transplant Act requires all Singaporean citizens and permanent residents over the age of 21 who are of “sound mind and have not opted out,” to have their kidneys, heart, liver, and corneas removed when they die.
Wong’s parents were not aware of the Act. Initially, her father struggled with the decision but ultimately came to terms with it.
“I heard they managed to do transplants on three patients. I feel it’s a blessing that at least she can help three people,” Wong’s father told the Strait Times.
He added: “My main worry now is my wife. She was very close to my daughter. They were like sisters. She is staying at a relative’s house for the time being.”
He said his daughter’s last words were upbeat as she left the house.
“She said, ‘Daddy, I’m going out’, and she continued joking with the maid and my mother as she closed the door.”
