Making its way north, the migrant caravan was reported to be traveling from Huixtla to Mapastepec, Mexico, on Oct. 24. In its path, one Mexico city was left with a mess on its hands after the Honduran caravan passed through the city.
In a recent video posted on Facebook, a Mexico resident recorded the immense trail of trash left by the caravan.
“The migrants are gone—they left us the trash,” said the user. “And as we said before, such a waste of food when they say they don’t even have enough to eat.”
Clothes scattered throughout the street could be seen in the video.
“It’s truly unfair that in a hospitable place, they leave all this garbage dump. And the clothes that they are kindly given, they also threw it away.”
What We Know
The caravan has been confirmed to be made up of approximately 3,630 migrants, according to a press release by The Secretary of the Interior and Foreign Affairs of Mexico. A second caravan of around 1,000 people formed in Guatemala on Oct. 23.Both of the caravans are more than 1,100 miles away from the United States border.
Among with the thousands of migrants, gang members and criminals have been reported to make up a part of the caravan, Honduran President Juan Hernández told U.S. officials. President Donald Trump also said on Oct 22. that “criminals and unknown Middle Easterners are mixed in.”
Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has assured the caravan that they will not be allowed to enter the United States illegally.
