An Indian man apparently woke up right before he was about to be buried, his stunned family members recall.
He was then rushed to a nearby hospital and placed on a ventilator.
Furqan had been unconscious since an accident in mid-June before he was declared dead. His family had told the hospital that they had run out of money to pay for his care, the news outlet reported.
Older brother Mohammad Irfan said the family was traumatized by the unusual turn of events.
“We had paid Rs 7 lakh [about $10,000] to the private hospital earlier and when we told them that we had run out of money, they had declared Furqan dead,” he said.
Narendra Agarwal, the chief medical officer in Lucknow, noted that an investigation will take place.
Agarwal said, “We have taken cognisance of the incident and the matter will be thoroughly probed.”
Not the First Time
In June, a 6-month-old child woke up during a funeral in Khairabad, India, according to the Gulf News.Deepak Kumar, baby of a rickshaw-puller Pawan Ram, got sick after suffering a heat stroke. Then, the baby was sent to a nearby doctor who declared him dead.
Family members then carried the baby to a graveyard near the village.
As witnesses tried to bury the baby, someone noticed the child began moving.
The baby was then rushed to a hospital before doctors said he was in critical condition. The baby reportedly survived.
“This is really incredible. We have not come across such a piece of news before in my whole lifetime,” said a local police official, also named Deepak Kumar, was quoted by the Gulf News as saying.
Funeral ‘Horror Story’
A family in Nova Scotia, Canada, described unimaginable mix-up involving three separate bodies by a funeral home.Serenity Funeral Home in Berwick reportedly presented the Canadian family with two wrong bodies.
But what’s worse is that their loved one had also been mistakenly cremated.
“It’s just like a horror story,” one family member, who wished to remain anonymous told the network.
Sandra Bennett passed away last year on Dec. 20 after a long-lasting illness. She was 65 years old at the time of her death.
Staff then wheeled out the casket and returned later but it still did not contain his wife’s body. Instead, it carried another deceased woman with Bennett’s clothes.
