Actor Keanu Reeves has signed a one-day contract to play with the Ontario Hockey League’s Windsor Spitfires.

Reeves was added to the teams’ roster on Aug. 22 in support of the Canadian Mental Health Association’s Windsor-Essex branch. Items signed by the movie star will be auctioned off online, with all proceeds donated to the association.

“In a moment of happenstance, the Windsor Spitfires Hockey Club were finally able to add this former Ontario Hockey League goalie prospect, turned Dogstar bass player, to their roster with a one day contract,” the Spitfires said in an Aug. 22 post on the X platform.
“Welcome to the #YQG Keanu Reeves! Signed items will be auctioned off with 100% of the proceeds benefiting the Canadian Mental Health Association - Windsor.”
The items include a one-of-a-kind jersey worn by Reeves during the contract signing. Winning bidders will also get the signed Ontario Hockey League contract, and special edition cases.

As of Aug. 24, the current bid was $20,000. There were 12 bids made on the items.

Reeves is no stranger to the game. In high school, he was “lukewarm” toward academics, but had a strong interest in ice hockey. He played the game in high school as a team goalie, and it was there he earned the nickname ‘The Wall,’ according to his IMDB biography.

Reeves was born in Beirut but moved to New York and then to Toronto. As an actor, he played a supporting role in the hockey movie “Youngblood” in 1986, which was filmed in Canada.

In the movie, 17-year-old Dean Youngblood, played by Rob Lowe, is offered a chance at hockey tryouts. He and his brother head to Canada for the opportunity.

It’s not the first time Reeves has made a surprise appearance. In 2022, a couple in the UK, Nikki and James Roadnight, had the opportunity to meet and get a photograph with the actor—on their wedding day.

When Reeves appeared on the Jimmy Fallon Tonight Show, Fallon asked him about the incident and whether he had crashed the wedding. Reeves said he had been invited.

James Roadnight told The Epoch Times that he saw Reeves at the bar and invited him to the reception. Reeves was in the area filming a documentary, according to news reports.

“I said my wife would love to meet him and that he couldn’t miss her because she was the one in the big white dress, and he laughed,” he said at the time.

Later in the evening, he said, the wedding photographer told him that a VIP was outside. The couple invited Reeves inside and took some photos with him.
