Foreign Affairs Minister Mélanie Joly says G7 leaders have “strong unity” on defending Ukraine and would back a ceasefire proposal supported by Ukrainians.

Joly spoke to media this morning after meeting with her counterparts from the U.S., Europe and Japan.

She has been hosting the Group of Seven foreign ministers’ meeting in the Charlevoix region, northeast of Quebec City.

She says the ball is now “in Russia’s court” and the G7 is now “studying” Russia’s reaction to the U.S. ceasefire proposal.

The minister says the leaders are on track to release a strong collective statement.

Other G7 leaders are also set to address media later today, including German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock.
