Batam City in Indonesia has officially designated March 28 as “Gan Jing World Day” in recognition of the global #KindnessIsCool Video Awards, an initiative by the online platform Gan Jing World (GJW).

The proclamation highlights the platform’s efforts to inspire kindness and encourage positive digital engagement throughout the city and beyond, GJW announced on Wednesday.

Batam City’s top officials presented GJW with a certificate of recognition and an official proclamation highlighting the platform’s efforts to inspire acts of kindness.

According to the proclamation, “WHEREAS, Gan Jing World’s Kindness Is Cool Video Awards inspired over 26,000 acts of kindness across 50+ countries; and WHEREAS, this movement has enriched schools, communities, and millions online; NOW, THEREFORE, I proclaim March 28th, to be: Gan Jing World Day in the city of Batam, Indonesia.”

Leading the acknowledgment was H. Muhammad Kamaluddin, S.Pd.I, chairman of the Regional People’s Representative Council (DPRD) of Batam City.

“On behalf of the leadership and members of the City DPRD, I extend a warm welcome to Gan Jing World. Spreading kindness means spreading life. Kindness is not just a necessity—it is what makes good people truly remarkable,” said Kamaluddin.

“Our children need a platform of kindness,” he added.

Other Batam City officials, such as Tri Wahyu Rubianto, S.T., M.Si, head of the Education Department, joined Kamaluddin in recognizing GJW.

Rubianto praised Gan Jing World for providing a safe online environment that is accessible to everyone.

“Together, we can create a truly positive digital community,” Rubianto said.

Rudi Panjaitan, S.STP., M.Si, head of the Communication and Informatics Department, encouraged Batam residents to support the platform’s initiatives.

“Kindness is our shared hope, and each of us has a role in making it a reality,” Panjaitan said.

Additionally affirming GJW’s impact were Mr. Zulkarnain HN, S.S.T., Head of the Youth and Sports Department of Batam City, along with Mr. Purwanto, M.Pd., Head of the Education Department of Purwakarta City.

Bronze Prize Winner

Batam officials also celebrated State Junior High School (SMPN) 29 Batam for winning the bronze prize in Gan Jing World’s Kindness Is Cool Contest.

As part of their recognition, the school will be featured on New York City’s Times Square Billboard during the awards ceremony on March 28.

On Tuesday, city officials from the Education Department and Youth and Sports Department visited the school to congratulate students and staff for their achievement.

During their visit to celebrate the school’s success, city officials announced plans for significant renovations of the school and its facilities.

Additionally, Batam City’s Head of Education declared SMPN 29 Batam as a model school for others in the area. Local schools are now being encouraged to integrate similar kindness-based activities into their curricula following SMPN 29’s example.

During 2024 Gan Jing World substantially increased its presence across Indonesian schools through distributing educational materials via community volunteers and hosting booths at school events, according to the platform. It also conducted webinars with around 2,000 school principals and teachers from five cities through collaboration with Indonesia’s Education and Culture Office.
