Hockey Star Mike Fisher: Truckers Are Fighting for the Freedom of Every Single Person in Canada

Former Canadian National Hockey League star Mike Fisher said truckers protesting against the COVID-19 vaccine mandates and restrictions are “fighting for the freedom of the country.”

In a video message posted on Instagram late January, Fisher, who is now also a United States citizen, said “Freedom Convoy 2022” is going to change Canada for the better.

“It’s been a little bit depressing the last few years seeing what’s going on up there, but these truckers, these people that are standing up for freedom, are giving the whole country hope,” he said, thanking the truckers.

“So to the truckers, can’t thank you enough. You guys are going to change the country for the better. You’re fighting for the freedom of every single person in the country, whether they know it or not.”

The retired hockey star went on to criticize media outlets that did not portray the protest accurately after having seen videos of the protesting truckers and their supporters engaged in peaceful demonstration.

“Obviously, the mainstream media is not covering it at all,” he said.

“So thank you to the people with the signs that are encouraging, that are making the food for these truckers, that are raising almost $5 million so far for these amazing people.”

Besides Fisher, another former hockey star from the NHL has also expressed his support to the truckers.

In an interview with NTD’s Capital Report on Feb. 7, Theo Fleury said the enthusiasm to end the vaccine mandates and lockdowns feels like an “Olympic year,” with scores of people joining the truckers’ protests.

“It’s probably the biggest event that’s happened in our country in 150 years, you know, we’ve never seen anything like this,” the Olympic gold medalist said.

Fleury said people are tired of lockdowns, vaccination mandates, and the digital passport requirements being implemented by the “corrupt” government.

“Well, this is the end goal, this is the end game … they want full control of our lives, what we put in our bodies, and the end goal is digital ID,” Fleury added. “They’re trying to implement in Canada what they’re doing in China.”

He continued that Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is dividing the nation with his divisive rhetoric on COVID issues.

Trudeau has accused the participants of “Freedom Convoy” of engaging in violent, disrespectful, and racist conduct. During a speech in the House of Commons on Feb. 7, the prime minister said the protesters harassed the citizens of Ottawa, and blocked the economy and democracy.

“We have a prime minister who is incredibly divisive, his rhetoric is beyond disgusting, and it needs to stop. … We love our country, and we want our government to get the hell out of our lives once and for all,” said Fleury.

On Feb. 8, Liberal MP Joël Lightbound broke ranks and called on his own government to lift COVID-19 restrictions and to change its divisive tone on the issue.

“I can’t help but notice with regret that both the tone and the policies of my government changed drastically on the eve, and during, the last election campaign,” said Lightbound at a solo press conference.

“From a positive and unifying approach, a decision was made to wedge, to divide, and to stigmatize. I fear that this politicization of the pandemic risks undermining the public’s trust in our public health institutions.”
