Health Canada has issued a recall for several medications, including acetaminophen, distributed by Canadian pharmaceutical firm Jamp Pharma.

Jamp’s 325 milligram and 500 milligram tablets of acetaminophen are being recalled because they may contain inaccurate dosages of the active ingredient, Health Canada said. Some of the tablets may have more than the recommended dose while others could have less than the full dose.

Anyone who has purchased a Jamp product is being urged to check whether their medication appears on the recall list. Health Canada is also recommending customers consult a health care provider before discontinuing the medication.

The lot numbers of the 325 milligram tablets are EG22AMP013, EG22AMP014, and EG22AMP015.

The lot numbers of the 500 milligram tablet are EG22AMQ034, EG22AMQ035, EG22AMQ036, and EG22AMQ042.

Anyone who has suffered side effects from using the medication is asked to report their symptoms to Health Canada.

Additional Medicines Recalled

Health Canada has also issued recalls for other Jamp products, including clopidogrel due to dosage level issues.
“Tablets may weigh less or more than they should, meaning patients could unexpectedly receive a lower or higher dose than intended,” the Sept. 5 recall notice said.

Clopidogrel is a medication used to prevent blood clots and reduce the risk of conditions blood cots can cause, including strokes, heart attacks, and circulation problems, Health Canada said.

Patients could face serious risks with the incorrect dose of clopidogrel, according to the recall notice. A lower dose than intended can reduce the medicine’s effectiveness, leading to a higher risk of stroke, heart attack, or serious blood vessel problems.

Higher doses than intended can lead to overdose, Health Canada said. Symptoms of an overdose include bleeding problems, such as nose bleeds, vomiting or coughing up blood, and blood in the stool, urine, or eye. Other side effects include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, headache, and joint or muscle pain, the recall said.

“Patients taking the affected product should return it to the pharmacy as soon as possible but should not stop their medication until they get a replacement product.”

The medication lots recalled are EG22CGM002, EG22CGM003, EG22CGN001, EG23CGN001, EG23CGN002, EG23CGN003, EG23CGM001, EG23CGL001, and EG23CGN004.

Health Canada said it is monitoring the recall, the company’s investigation, and what the company is doing to prevent a reoccurrence.

Mistaken Medical Weight

Another Jamp medicine recalled, pyridostigmine bromide, is used to treat myasthenia gravis, a condition that causes muscle weakness, according to the Mayo Clinic.
Health Canada said Jamp’s 60 milligram tablets are being recalled for possible incorrect dosage weights.
The lots being recalled are EG23PYA003 and EG23PYA004.

Telmisartan Recalled

Health Canada is also recalling Jamp Telmisartan tablets in the 40 milligram and 80 milligram dosages for possible overweight or underweight lots.

The affected lots are:

40 milligram size: EG22TMV005, EG22TMV006, EG22TMV007, EG23TMT001, EG23TMT002, EG23TMT003, EG23TMV001, EG23TMV002, EG23TMV003, and EG24TMV002.

80 milligram size: EG22TMX007, EG22TMX009, EG22TMU002, EG23TMU001, EG23TMU002, EG23TMX001, and EG23TMX002.

Jamp Telmisartan HCT tablets, used to treat mild to moderate essential hypertension, are also included in the recall. Health Canada said lots EG23TCK002 and EG23TCP002 are being recalled.
