A country-wide recall has been issued for the Stokke YOYO baby stroller due to a braking system defect that Health Canada describes as an “injury hazard.”

The federal health agency is urging parents to “immediately stop” using the recalled product because a flaw in the stroller could cause the parking brake to disengage.

Stokke said it recently identified the braking system issue and opted to recall the units “out of an abundance of caution.”

“Ensuring the wellbeing and safety of the children and families using our products is our main priority,” the company said in its recall notice. “We sincerely apologize for any concern and inconvenience this matter may cause you.”

The recall impacts all strollers with a serial number that begins with the sequence ‘142AA’ followed by a number that falls below ‘0062239.’ The serial number with ‘AA’ refers to one specific supplier, Health Canada said.

The China-manufactured Stokke YOYO baby strollers come with either a black, or a black and white frame while the seat, canopy and storage compartment, which are sold separately, are available in black, beige, stone, olive, taupe, toffee, ginger, blue, or aqua.

The affected products were sold between August and October of this year, the notice said. No injuries had been reported as of Nov. 7.

Stokke has a recall portal allowing users to register and receive detailed instructions for returning the affected YOYO baby stroller units along with all associated components.

Once Stokke receives the return, a full refund will be issued, the advisory says.

The notice marks the first stroller recall by Health Canada this year.

Baby Spoon Recall

Melii Baby recently issued a voluntary recall of its Melii Animal Silicone Spoons following reports of the end of the spoon breaking off while being used.
“The silicone spoons may crack and break apart while in use, posing a potential choking hazard to children,” Health Canada said in its advisory last month. “Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled products and contact Melii Baby Inc. for a replacement set.”

The company has received four incident reports as of Oct. 18, but no injuries have been recorded in Canada.

The recall impacts three spoon sets from Melii, which sells products online at both Amazon and Walmart. A total of 8,391 units were sold in Canada between March and August, Health Canada said.

The sets, which were manufactured between December 2023 and May 2024, include the Melii Luxe Silicone Spoons 3 pack, Melii Silicone Animal Spoons 4 pack, and the Melii Silicone Spoons 3 pack.

Customers can identify the recalled spoons by checking the production clock embedded into each individual spoon, Health Canada said. A list of the model and UPC numbers is also available here.
Customers can contact Melii Baby Inc. by telephone, email, or via the company website.
