Ms. Freeland’s press secretary, the finance department, and the WEF have not responded to a request for status update.
There are currently no stakeholders willing to discuss the current status of Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland with the World Economic Forum (WEF), for which she has served as a board member since 2019.
As of publication time, there was no sign of Ms. Freeland on the WEF web page listing members of its leadership team. Based on a search with the Internet Archive, Ms. Freeland was removed from the web page between
Nov. 13 and
Nov. 23, 2023. There was also no sign of Ms. Freeland on the most recently available archived page on Jan. 4, 2024.
Shortly after this article was published, Ms. Freeland reappeared on the online WEF leadership
roster.
The Epoch Times had reached out earlier in the week to Ms. Freeland’s press secretary, the Finance Department, and the WEF to get an update on her status but none had responded.
The Epoch Times has filed an access to information request in an attempt to obtain confirmation. The information may also become available through Ms. Freeland’s annual update with the Ethics Commissioner which should be due in May.
Her last
annual review with the Ethics Commissioner dates May 15, 2023, and it indicates her role as a member of the board of trustees of the WEF.
The Ethics Commissioner has indicated in the
past two annual reports that the commissioner has received requests from the public asking for investigations into MPs and ministers’ involvement in the WEF. The requests “did not provide sufficient information to warrant an investigation,” it says.
The WEF, a globalist organization steered by leaders in the fields of business, politics, and activism has the motto “Committed to improving the state of the world.”
Along with being a think tank driving a progressive agenda and calling for increased private-public partnerships, its specific initiatives also have policy impacts.
Canada has participated in at least two WEF projects, such as the Known Traveller Digital Identity and the Agile Nations network. The former is a pilot project for the use of digital credentials in air travel and the latter seeks to usher in the WEF-promoted “Fourth Industrial Revolution” by streamlining technological regulations across countries.
The WEF forum takes place annually in the town of Davos, Switzerland, with this year’s
meeting under the theme “Rebuilding Trust” starting on Jan. 15.
The agenda has yet to be publicly released. It is unknown at this time if Ms. Freeland or another cabinet minister will attend. The Canadian government was
discreet about any related activities last year.
Ms. Freeland attended the forum in 2023 and participated in a public session on the war in Ukraine.
She also participated in an undisclosed
private session on financing Ukraine with participants such as Netherlands Prime Minister Mark Rutte and Blackrock CEO Larry Fink. The information was revealed through a request for information from Conservative MP Leslyn Lewis.
The WEF is headed by Klaus Schwab, who has called for a “Great Reset” by using the COVID-19 pandemic to reshape world systems.
He has previously thanked Ms. Freeland for her leadership in a personal February 2022
letter obtained by The Epoch Times.
“I have long counted on your leadership in ensuring multistakeholder efforts remain focused on results that are more equitable, sustainable and just,” Mr. Schwab wrote.
Editor’s note: This article was updated to include information about Ms. Freeland’s reappearance on the WEF leadership web page on Jan. 10.
