The Greens have quadrupled their number of MPs in Westminster, after the party won all four of their target seats on Friday.
Green co-leaders Carla Denyer and Adrian Ramsay both secured their respective seats in Bristol Central and Waveney Valley.
Sian Berry, standing for Brighton Pavilion, successfully retained the seat long-held by Greens MP Caroline Lucas.
While in North Herefordshire, Ellie Chowns dethroned Conservative Bill Wiggin in a historic Greens win.
Greens co-leader Ms. Denyer, told ITV she was “over the moon” with the results.
“I’m so grateful to everyone who has voted Green both here in Bristol central and across the country,” said Ms. Denyer.
She said the party put most of their campaign efforts targeting the four constituencies where they won all their seats.
“We’ve been very open with our level of ambition in this election. We’ve stood a record number of parliamentary candidates across the country, 574 – that’s more than the conservatives.”
Ms. Denyer was announced as her party’s second-ever MP last night, after defeating senior Labour figure Thangam Debbonaire in Bristol Central.
The former Bristol City councillor secured almost 57 percent of the votes among the Bristol Central electorate, knocking out the second-placed Labour by more than 10,000 votes.
Prior to the election, Ms. Debbonaire was the shadow culture secretary and was tipped for a place in Sir Keir Starmer’s cabinet.
Newly elected Brighton Pavilion MP Sian Berry told the PA news agency, “We set our sights really high in this election and we’ve achieved everything that we set out to do.”
“That feels incredibly good. It shows that there’s people out there really, really ready and crying out for our message.
“We’ve got a change of Government but that doesn’t change very much unless we can get some of the ideas in our manifesto into Labour’s programme. That’s what we’re working on,” she added.
The former London Assembly member beat the nearest challenger, Labour’s Tom Gray, by a majority of 14,290 votes.
The Green Party have described Ellie Chowns’ win in the seat of North Herefordshire as “one of the biggest electoral upsets in British political history,” in a press release on Friday.
Ms. Chowns defeated the Conservative candidate Mr. Wiggin by approximately 6,000 votes.
The constituency has been a Conservative safe seat for more than a century, with Mr. Wiggin claiming his seat with almost 63 percent of the vote in 2019.
“The people of North Herefordshire have voted for real hope, and real change. Together we have made history, and shown that change really is possible here.
“There is an enormous amount of work to do–to renew our economy, to repair our NHS, and to restore our rivers,” added Ms. Chowns.
