Canadian billionaire Frank Stronach, 91, is facing eight further criminal charges, including sexual assault, Peel Regional Police have announced.
Mr. Stronach had previously been accused of sexually assaulting three different individuals in incidents in Toronto and Aurora, according to a court document. The alleged incidents took place in 1980, 1986, and 2023.
Police charged Mr. Stronach with one count of rape, one count of indecent assault on a female, one count of forcible confinement, and two counts of sexual assault in connection with those incidents.
Police now say additional victims have been identified.
Investigators from the Peel Regional Police, Special Victims Unit, have identified additional victims and additional charges have been laid,” police said in an email to The Epoch Times.
Mr. Stronach was arrested by police on June 26 and charged with eight additional charges, including attempted rape, indecent assault on a female, and six counts of sexual assault.
Mr. Stronach’s lawyer, Brian Greenspan, has said his client denies the allegations and is looking forward to responding to the charges to maintain his legacy.
Mr. Stronach built his legacy in corporate Canada as the founder and former chief executive of one of the country’s largest auto parts manufacturers, Magna International. He started the company in his garage in 1957.
A spokesperson for Magna previously said Mr. Stronach gave up control of the company more than a decade ago and is no longer affiliated with it.
He also founded The Stronach Group, which specializes in horse racing, and Stronach International, which focuses on organic foods and micro-electric mobility.
Originally from Austria, he created his own political party there in 2012, which proposed reforming the euro and introducing a flat tax.
Mr. Stronach’s daughter, Belinda, was a Canadian politician from 2004 to 2008, serving as an MP in the Conservative Party before crossing the floor to join the Liberals in 2005.
In 2018, Mr. Stronach sued his daughter, two grandchildren, and a former business associate for more than $500 million, saying they mismanaged the family’s assets. They settled the lawsuit in 2020 and the family fortune was split across two factions.
Ms. Stronach said at the time she loved her father but denied the allegations.
“Family relationships within a business can be challenging,” she said at the time.
