A fire is burning out of control at the Bulla tip in Melbourne’s outer north.

There is dense smoke in the area and 13 Country Fire Authority trucks are battling the blaze.

The CFA on Tuesday morning advised residents to avoid the area, while anyone who is sensitive to smoke should close windows and doors.

But the fire does not pose a threat to the community.

Earlier this month, the tip was approved as one of two potential sites for the toxic fill from the West Gate Tunnel project.

But the Hume council is against the proposal.
