More motorists should be charged for driving on Australian roads, automotive groups argue, and fuel excise should be ditched in favour of a more equitable tax scheme.

The Australian Automotive Dealers Association joined the call for the government to introduce a national road-user charge for motorists in its pre-budget submission released on Jan. 31.
