David Bauernfeind, Top Domino’s Pizza Official, Dead in Snorkeling Accident: Reports

The chief financial officer of Domino’s Pizza Group died in a freak snorkeling accident in Mauritius, according to reports.

“Our Chief Financial Officer, David Bauernfeind, died in a tragic accident on Thursday, 26th December whilst on holiday with his family,” the UK-based franchise said in a statement to the New York Post on Friday.

Other details about his death were not disclosed.

“We are all deeply shocked and saddened by this tragic news,” stated the company’s chief executive, David Wild. “On behalf of our Board, our colleagues and our franchisees, we send our heartfelt sympathies to David’s wife Nicolette and daughter Ornella as well as his wider family and friends.”

Bauernfeind, 51, joined Domino’s Pizza in 2018. He died while snorkeling while vacationing with his daughter, The Mirror reported.

“The skipper of a yacht discovered the body floating in a lagoon off Belle Mare on Thursday morning,” a source was quoted by the newspaper as saying.

Reports said that his cause of death was ruled as asphyxiation via drowning.

Wild added that Bauernfeind was “hugely liked and deeply respected for his dedication and sharp intellect amongst Domino’s colleagues.”

“He was a force for good within the business and will be greatly missed,” the executive added.

Local reports that the body of the British tourist was found at 11:45 a.m. local time near Belle Mare, The Guardian reported.

The body was transported to nearby Victoria hospital. He was later pronounced dead.
