The comedian behind the “Raygun” musical, has publicly apologised to Olympic breakdancer Rachael “Raygun” Gunn after the project was shut down due to legal threats and a $10,000 bill.

Stephanie Broadbridge also confirmed the show’s title and promotional materials would be changed, and any reference to Raygun removed.

Broadbridge, addressing her 12,000 Instagram followers, expressed regret over the negative attention Raygun received following the cancellation of the musical, which had been inspired by the athlete’s name, silhouette, and Olympic performance.

In her apology, Broadbridge clarified that it was never her intention to mislead the public or implicate Raygun.

She admitted that she had failed to contact the Olympian before creating the poster and title of the show, which led to confusion about her involvement.

“It was never my intention to mislead people into thinking that she was involved in the production,” Broadbridge said.

Raygun Speaks Out on Misinformation

Raygun responded to the controversy in a heartfelt Instagram video, expressing relief that the issue had been resolved amicably.

The Olympian acknowledged the misinformation circulating online, explaining that the legal demands for $10,000 in costs were a standard precautionary measure, not an actual request for payment.

“It’s been a big couple of weeks … but I’m really pleased to say that we’ve resolved everything,” she said.

Raygun clarified that while her legal team had initially sent the letter, no costs were being sought from Broadbridge, and she wished the comedian success with her rebranded musical.

Raygun also took the opportunity to address the hurtful comments she had received during the saga, thanking her supporters for their positivity.

She expressed sympathy for Broadbridge, recognising that the comedian had been subjected to criticism as well.

“It’s never been my intention to cause any hurt or distress,” Raygun said.

“This is a totally new environment for me to be in, and I just want to say… I am sorry for any hurt that was caused.”

Broadbridge Moves Forward with New Show

Following the apology and the resolution of the legal matter, Broadbridge revealed that her breakdance-inspired musical would go ahead under a new name “Breaking The Musical,” which she will now promote with a fresh title and visual materials.

Broadbridge, acknowledging the fallout from the situation, expressed relief that the conflict had been resolved, while Raygun, fresh off her Olympic performance, reiterated her gratitude for the support she had received throughout the ordeal.

In closing, Raygun offered a lighthearted jibe at the online criticism she had faced, especially after receiving the lowest marks in her Olympic breakdancing performance.

“I really want to say thank you to my supporters who have reached out with messages of positivity and kindness, especially when online has just been so awful,” she remarked.
