Canadians will be able to fill up their vehicle tanks before the long weekend for a savings of 10 cents per litre at Circle K stops across the country.

The discount is being offered Aug. 29 between 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. in celebration of the company’s annual Fuel Day. There are more than 1,200 locations across Canada running the deal.
“We are thrilled to bring back Circle K Fuel Day ahead of the Labour Day long weekend, and offer Canadians some great savings at the pump,” said Alimentation Couche-Tard senior vice-president of operations Stéphane Trudel in a news release. Alimentation Couche-Tard owns Circle K.

The discount will be applied at the pump in all provinces except Prince Edward Island. Customers in that province will need to pre-pay in-store to receive the discount, the company said.

The deal comes in time for the last long weekend of summer—a time when a lot of Canadians will be on the road.

For those planning a road trip for the Labour Day weekend, the RCMP is offering the following tips.

Don’t Drink

Police say impaired driving is one of the leading causes of death, with approximately one in three collisions involving alcohol. Most of these accidents happen during the summer months, the RCMP said.

Some drivers believe they can just have one drink and then sober up with a coffee or cold shower, but it’s not true, police said.

“The concentration of alcohol in a person will only be gradually eliminated with the passage of time,“ the policing agency said. ”Don’t drink at all if you are planning to drive.”

Stop When Tired

It can be tempting to drive straight-through on long trips, but rest stops are important, the RCMP said.
“A stretch break keeps the driver alert by promoting blood circulation and makes the trip more pleasant for passengers,” the agency said, adding that drivers should stop when feeling fatigued and get a good sleep before getting behind the wheel again.

Avoid Aggressive Driving

It’s also important to stay a safe distance from other vehicles on the road so you have enough room to stop safely, the RCMP said. Other tips include being careful when reversing, changing lanes, and turning, and being aware of other drivers’ blind spots and staying out of them.

Remain calm if encountering an aggressive driver, police said, adding that it’s a bad idea to yell or gesture at the other driver, which could aggravate the situation.
