Canada reached 431,645 new immigrants last year, setting a new record. The country is on track to have immigrants make up 30 percent of the population by 2036. In contrast, immigrants made up 20.7 percent of the population in 2011.

According to the federal government, immigration accounts for almost 100 percent of labour force growth and 75 percent of the country’s immigration growth. India and China were the top countries from which immigration originated, as per the 2021 Census and Statistics Canada.
