Zlatko Sikorsky, the murder suspect of a 16-year-old girl whose body was found in a barrel, has been arrested following a 28 hour stand-off with police.
Sikorsky, had been wanted since Wednesday over the disappearance of 16-year-old Brisbane girl Larissa Beilby.
On Friday at 3:25pm, police created an exclusion zone around the Alexandra Headlands complex where Sikorsky had barricated himself into.
Police created the exclusion zone by blocking off Alex Parade to the north, Mary Street to the west, Mayfield Street to the east and William Street to the south. The exclusion zone was created to ensure public safety.
“I want to thank the people of Alexandra Headlands - particularly those living within our exclusion zone - for their patience and assistance during the last 24 hours. It is very much appreciated,” Sunshine Coast District Officer Superintendent Darryl Johnson said.
“It was important to give our negotiators the time and space to help us resolve this peacefully - and I am relieved that we have been able to take this man into custody without him, any member of the public or any of our officers being hurt.”
Police then tracked the black ute to a trailer park on Cedar Drive in Stapylton.
A woman at the park was offered $2,000 by Sikorsky to open the gate to allow the vehicle to enter.
The woman agreed to do this out of fear when she saw a barrel in the ute tray and an arm hanging out of it. Police later found the abandoned vehicle, loaded with the barrel that had a decomposed body inside. Sikorsky was then identified by police as a murder suspect.
Sikorsky has been taken to the Maroochydore Watch House where he faces extensive questioning before charges are laid, according to Courier Mail.
