An experienced security adviser who has served under three prime ministers has been appointed Australia’s director-general of national intelligence.
Andrew Shearer will replace Office of National Intelligence boss Nick Warner in December for a five-year term.
Shearer has served as deputy director-general at the Office of National Assessments and advised John Howard, Tony Abbott and Scott Morrison on national security issues.
Since 2019, Shearer has served as cabinet secretary - helping set up the national cabinet to coordinate the response to COVID-19.
