Farm-fresh berries are one of the best parts of summer, and in the Vancouver area there are plenty of great places to choose from for berry picking.

British Columbia is one of the more prolific fruit-producing provinces in Canada, with 180 frost-free days each year, according to Statistics Canada. In 2023, fruit sales were $457 million despite lower yields due to extreme heat and untimely frost, StatCan said.
For those looking for a fun, fresh experience in the Vancouver area, here are seven u-pick berry farms to experience.

Bumbleberry Farms

Located in the Fraser Valley since 1969, Bumbleberry Farms offers raspberries, strawberries, blackberries, and blueberries. Strawberry rows are raised to prevent sore backs and muscles from bending over to pick. Bring your own container or purchase one there. The farm is open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., daily. However, it will close to the public if it is raining or the fruit is wet. No pets are allowed in the field, and visitors are asked to be mindful of farm machinery that may be operating in the area.

Maan Farms

Offering strawberries, raspberries, and blueberries, Maan Farms has been in the Fraser Valley area since 1977. Visitors need to book a time online and purchase a container for picking on-site. Hours for u-pick are from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Maan’s u-pick is open rain or shine. Guests are asked not to smoke or vape in the field and there are no pets allowed.

Emma Lea Farms

Emma Lea Farms has produced fresh fruit for the Vancouver area since 1885 and opened its u-pick about 30 years ago. The farm grows a variety of berries, including strawberries, blackberries, blueberries, and boysenberries, as well as tayberries, black currants, and raspberries. Located south of Richmond, u-pick is open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily in the summer months. The farm has a no-pet policy.

Driediger Farms

Started by the Driediger family in 1964, Driediger Farms has grown from a small strawberry field to include raspberries, blueberries, and blackberries. Located in the Fraser Valley near attractions like Fort Langley and the Thunderbird Show Park, Driediger Farms offers u-pick from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Visitors can check in and pay for buckets at the u-pick booth. No pets are allowed in the fields and smoking is prohibited on the farm.

Krause Berry Farms

Celebrating 50 years of business in 2024, Krause Berry Farms started with a single acre of strawberry plants in Langley. Open from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m., the farm now has blueberries, strawberries, and raspberries available for picking. Containers need to be purchased from the farm, which include the price of the berries. Pets are not allowed on the farm, and guests are asked not to smoke or vape in the area. The farm, along with the winery, have been the backdrop for many movies, which are listed on its website.

Surrey Farms

Started in 1989, Surrey Farms now offers u-pick options in two locations in the area, where guests can pick fresh strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, and blackberries. Containers are weighed before and after guests pick for an accurate measure. U-pick is open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. No pets are allowed in the fields.

Willems Berry Farm

A family-owned farm in Abbotsford since the 1940s, Willems Berry Farm started offering u-pick in the 1980s. At that time it was based on the honour system; visitors would weigh and pay for the berries on their own. Guests can pick fresh raspberries, blueberries, and strawberries from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Visitors are allowed to bring their own containers or purchase one at the farm. No pets and no smoking allowed.
