Three cheese brands are being recalled in four provinces due to possible microbial contamination, according to Health Canada.
Five types of Rumba Cheeses, as well as one type each of Sabana and Sombrero cheeses are being recalled in Alberta, British Columbia, Ontario, and Quebec.
Affected products include Rumba Queso Campesino Country Cheese, Rumba Asadero Mexican Style Cheese, Rumba Queso Fresco Fresco Cheese, Rumba Campesino, Rumba Asadero, Sabana Queso Fresco Grilling Cheese, and Sombrero Asadero Grilling Cheese.
The lot-code information for all seven affected cheeses is available on the Health Canada website.
The advisory, which warns against consumption of any of the cheese products on the list, was triggered by test results from the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) which found microbial contamination in the form of Staphylococcus aureus.
The advisory recommends customers dispose of all affected products immediately.
Staphylococcus aureus is a bacteria that can cause food poisoning and a variety of other issues, according to Health Canada.
“The bacteria are a leading cause of food poisoning, resulting from the consumption of food contaminated with enterotoxins,” the agency said. “Staphylococcal food intoxication involves rapid onset of nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, cramps, and diarrhea. Symptoms usually resolve after 24 hours.”

Gluten-Related Recalls

Universal Bakery brand Organic Aussie Bites and Sitara brand Brown Lentils are also being recalled in Canada due to undeclared gluten on their labels.
The June 14 advisory for Organic Aussie Bites is in effect for all online orders of the 850-gram bite-sized snacks as well as those purchased in-store in Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, Ontario, Quebec, and Saskatchewan.
Sitara brand Brown Lentils is under a national recall order, according to the June 14 notice.
Health Canada is advising consumers not to eat either recalled product if they have celiac disease or other gluten-related disorders.
Recalled products can be thrown out or returned to the store from which they were purchased.
