Newfoundland offers 29,000 kilometres of coastline to explore and discover, as well as whales, orcas, seabirds, amazing rock formations, and caves.

Taking a boat tour allows visitors to get up close to some of the most amazing views and experiences that Canada has to offer.

Here are some of the local boat tours and adventures where you can discover more about nature and marine life.

Whale Watching & Iceberg Boat Tours—Trinity Eco-Tours

Take a tour of Newfoundland’s coast with Trinity Eco-Tours and discover wildlife including dolphins, porpoises, seals, basking sharks, puffins, eagles, and various whale species. Visitors will also have an opportunity to view one of the icebergs that are found off the coast. Boat tours are available for two or three hours, leaving several times a day.

Sea Cave Kayak Tour—Ocean Quest Adventures

Get an up-close look at Newfoundland’s rocky coastline by exploring sea caves along the coast in the Sea Cave Kayak Tour offered by Ocean Quest Adventures. The caves are geological wonders that feel like they’re from another world—or at least another time period. It’s a three-hour tour for visitors that starts at 3 p.m. local time on Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday. Single and double kayaks are available.

Two-Hour Scenic Tour—Clarey’s Diving and Eco Tours

Discover some of the marine life in and around the Newfoundland coast with a two-hour scenic tour on a Bayliner with Clarey’s Diving and Eco Tours. There are three possible destinations that visitors can choose from, including a trip around Badger Bay. During the trip, guests can search for whales, eagles, osprey, otters, lobsters, and more. You’ll also be able to spot some of the magnificent waterfalls and rock formations on the east coast. The Glovers Harbour Tour is similar to the Badger Bay ride but also includes the Giant Squid in Glovers Harbour. Clarey’s also offers a mussel farm tour that stops at Pilley’s Island and Julie’s Harbour.

Badger Chute Whitewater Rafting Adventure—Rafting Newfoundland

For an easy whitewater rafting trip suited to any skill level, the Badger Chute takes visitors for a day in the river. Boaters will enjoy riding the rapids, swimming in calm pools, and exploring the spectacular scenery off the Newfoundland coast. It’s an experience that is suitable for those as young as five, but it’s recommended riders be swimmers. The four- to five-hour trip leaves at 11 a.m. local time and will be an experience to remember.

Iceberg Quest Ocean Tours—MV Cetacean Quest

Take a trip along Iceberg Alley and get close to these amazing floating icebergs with an Iceberg Quest Ocean Tour. Visitors will find each berg has its own unique shape, colour, and beauty. Tours run from May to September. Trips last about an hour and a half. There is also a chance that guests will spot whales while on the tour.

North Arm Adventure—EverOutdoor Aventures

Visit somewhere few get to see up close with a tour of North Arm, Newfoundland. A six-hour Zodiac tour will take visitors past unique geological landscapes and rock formations among the red mountains. Guests can also spot marine animals that call the area home, including whales, dolphins, and seabirds.
