Four of the six teens arrested following the robbery of a jewelry store in Markham, Ont., were out on bail, according to police.
York Regional Police have charged two 19-year-olds and four youths, ranging from 15 years old to 17 years old, after responding to a call around noon on Dec. 4 at a Markham jewelry store.
With police on the way, a white Honda Civic believed to be an escape vehicle used in the robbery was reported to have rear-ended another vehicle in the same area. The Civic, believed to be an escape vehicle used in the robbery suspected to be one of the vehicles involved in the robbery. Multiple occupants were said to have fled on foot, with police chasing them.
“Four suspects were quickly taken into custody,“ police said. ”Two additional suspects were located hiding in the washroom of a nearby food establishment.”
Occupants of the vehicle struck by the Civic were taken to the hospital with minor injuries, police said.
The Civic had been reported stolen in Toronto on Nov. 10. Another vehicle, a beige SUV, is also believed to have been used in the jewelry store theft.
The arrested adults are Remario Murdock, 19, and Trevone Ball-Barnes, 19. Also arrested were a 17-year-old male, two 16-year-old males, and a 15-year-old male.
All face charges of robbery with an offensive weapon, disguise with intent to commit a crime, and possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000.
The two 16-year-olds, the 15-year-old, and Ball-Barnes were out on bail when they were arrested, according to police.
At least six other male suspects are being sought—four believed to have been directly involved in the robbery and two thought to have acted as getaway drivers, police said.
