A woman is being questioned by police about the suspicious death of a baby girl at a unit in south Brisbane last month.

The 32-year-old woman was interviewed at Morningside Police Station on December 27 about the death of the five-month-old at a home in Annerley between November 15 and 16.

Detective Acting Inspector Rod Watts won’t say if the woman is related to the baby, but confirmed they both lived at the unit complex where the baby was found dead.

“I’m not prepared to go into the details of the relationship,” he told reporters on Sunday.

Det Insp Watts said forensic pathology tests have not been completed, so the cause of death is unknown, but officers believe it was not natural causes.

The baby girl did not have any signs of physical injury when police found her body.

He said existing medical evidence and police investigations suggest that something suspicious happened between November 15, when the baby was last seen alive on CCTV footage at a Buranda supermarket, and the following morning.

“We’re not certain, as I said, the information we have is that the child was happy and healthy one afternoon, and the next morning the child was at home, but deceased with both parents,” Det Insp Watts said.

He said no one else was living at the unit other than the baby’s parents at the time and a Triple Zero call first alerted police to the death.

Det Insp Watts said the family was tight-knit and a small circle of people living at the apartment complex at the time.

He urged anyone with any information about the baby’s death to contact police via CrimeStoppers.

“Someone knows something,” he added.
