An 87-year-old woman was struck and killed by a Jeep Wrangler in Irvine, authorities said on July 22.

The motorist driving the jeep stayed at the scene and cooperated with police, according to Lt. Cathy Scherer of the Irvine Police Department.

The victim was identified as Maria Servas, Ms. Scherer said.

The black Wrangler was going westbound on Irvine Boulevard toward Marketplace when it struck Ms. Servas, who was walking north on Marketplace in the crosswalk, she said.

Paramedics dispatched to the location at about 7:45 p.m. on July 21 pronounced her dead at the scene, Ms. Scherer said.

“The driver of the vehicle was contacted at the scene by officers and cooperated with the investigation,” she said. “Officers determined the driver was not under the influence of alcohol or drugs.”

The department’s Major Accident Investigation Team urged anyone with information regarding the crash to call them at 949-724-7047.
