A 54-year-old man was killed in a seven-vehicle crash on the San Gabriel River 605 Freeway in Lakewood, authorities said July 3.
The man was identified as Kelly Drake, of Westminster, according to Medical Examiner’s office.
The crash was reported at 8:14 p.m. Sunday on the southbound 605 Freeway at Carson Street, California Highway Patrol Officer Stephen Brandt told City News Service.
A news videographer at the scene said the crash was triggered by an earlier two-vehicle crash at the Carson Street off-ramp after several vehicles were unable to stop to avoid the wreckage.
He said Drake was a passenger in one of the vehicles and another person was taken to a hospital with injuries.
All southbound lanes except the far right lane were shut down for the investigation and clean up, Brandt said.
