For decades, Italian opera singer Andrea Bocelli has stunned the world with his incredibly powerful voice and magnetic stage presence. As singer Céline Dion, one of the greatest vocal talents of our time, has said: “If God would have a singing voice, he must sound a lot like Andrea Bocelli.” Even more incredible, this talented vocalist has become one of the best-selling artists of all time in Europe and America without sight.
Diagnosed with glaucoma as a child, he went blind at the age of 12. While losing sight at that young age was devastating and would have stopped most people from pursuing a public career, Bocelli has never allowed his disability to keep him down. Just as important as his groundbreaking musical career is his love for his family.
“Because he stayed at the piano, he knows music just for this… And one time his mother came to me and said, ‘Have you heard Matteo sing?’ And I said no. And she said, ‘Listen to him because he’s very nice.’” When the legendary classical singer heard his son sing, he knew there was something special.
Though the singer had accomplished more in his career than many others put together, he felt the need to come back to his own vision. Bocelli thought to himself, “maybe the time has come to put my effort into finding new songs. Like starting all over again, as it were, in my career.”
While embarking on this amazing journey, he wanted those closest to him to play a big part. His oldest son, Amos Bocelli, played piano for the acoustic versions of “Sono Qui” (I Am Here) and “Ali de Libertà” (Wings of Freedom). Matteo Bocelli, on the other hand, lent his voice to “Fall on Me,” the single to represent the new album.
With nothing but a piano and their voices, the Bocellis delivered an incredibly moving rendition of this love song that hasn’t left any dry eyes thus far. Here’s hoping that these two will continue their “perfect symphony” for many years to come.
