
President Donald Trump said the United Nations had not lived up to its potential, as he announced he will be attending this year’s United Nations General Assembly that is set to open on Tuesday, Sept 25.
Trump is set to speak Tuesday morning at the two-day annual assembly that brings together world leaders.
The president has frequently criticized the international body and said the United States, which is responsible for 22 percent of the United Nations’ $5.4-billion budget, pays too much.
Texas Officer Saves Driver From Out-of-Control Pick-Up
A quick-acting police officer from Anna, Texas, recently saved the life of a stranded motorist from an out-of-control vehicle.The story began on Sept. 7, when the tiny town of Anna, Texas, was getting pounded by rainfall from a heavy storm.
Visibility was impeded, the roads were slick, and the 12,000 residents of the town (some 50 miles northeast of Dallas) were finding it hard to navigate the roadways.
Anna police officer Brandon Blair was patrolling carefully along the highway when he saw an SUV on the right side of the road, facing the wrong way, wedged against a tree.
Officer Blair headed out into the rain to help the stranded motorist. His dash cam recorded what followed.
Woman Gives Birth in Times Square
A woman gave birth to a baby right inside the Westin Hotel on Sept. 21.The NYPD congratulated the family with a video on twitter.
Two brothers helped deliver the baby boy.
One is a police officer and the other an EMT.
They were both assigned to times square and just happened to be working the same shift.
Both the mother and child were fine after the delivery.
Japanese Supply Ship Heads to Space Station After Delays
An unmanned Japanese space capsule is headed to the International Space Station filled with cargo including food, experiments and new batteries.The craft was launched on Sept. 23th at 2:52 a.m. from the Tanegashima Space Center in southern Japan. It will take 4 ½ days to reach the space station.
The launch was delayed for about two weeks because of bad weather and a mechanical problem.
When Pigs Fly: Berlin Giant Kite Festival Spurs Delight
Pigs flew, teddy bears soared, and even dinosaurs rose into the Berlin sky as crowds were treated to a high-flying kite display on Sept. 23.The colorful spectacle at the Tempelhofer Feld grounds in the German capital marked the seventh anniversary of the giant kite festival.
Kite flying champions from around Europe proudly showed off their handmade creations, buoyed by windy weather.
Tempelhofer Feld, once a historic military site and home of the former Tempelhof Airport, is today a 355-hectare public park, one of the largest inner city parks in the world.
