U.S. President Donald Trump and Vice President Mike Pence visited the Martin Luther King Jr. memorial on Monday, Jan. 21, to mark Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.
King, a Baptist pastor who advocated for nonviolence, racial brotherhood, and rights for all, won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1964 and was assassinated in 1968.
Trump laid a wreath on Monday morning at the foot of the memorial alongside Vice President Mike Pence.

Martin Luther King Jr. Honored Across the Country
San Antonio’s Martin Luther King Day march may be the largest yet, claimed the local march organizers.They estimate 300,000 people participated in the event to honor the life and legacy of Doctor Martin Luther King, Junior. The march stretched for almost three miles.

This year the MLK parade in Los Angeles is themed “Healthy Bodies, Healthy Minds, Healthy Democracy” to commemorate Dr. King’s 90th birthday.

Senator Kamala Harris Announced Plans to Run for President in 2020
MLK day was also a busy Monday for those 2020 hopefuls eyeing the presidential race.Democratic Senator Kamala Harris of California launched her 2020 campaign for the White House on Monday by touting her background as a prosecutor.
She timed her announcement for the holiday, honoring the slain civil rights leader, saying he was an aspirational leader.
