Shocking video footage of a woman carrying her child while threatening to kill a United Airlines flight attendant on a redeye flight from San Francisco to Chicago has gone viral on social media. The Sunday morning altercation resulted in three people being sent to a Chicago hospital, one of whom was a crew member, according to the airline.
“A disruptive customer on a flight from San Francisco to Chicago was removed by law enforcement upon landing on Sunday, and one member of the flight attendant crew was taken to a hospital for evaluation,” United Airlines said in a statement.
Different videos of the incident have gone viral on Twitter and TikTok, with one video on TikTok showing the woman shoving her arm against a flight attendant’s neck and threatening “I will [expletive] kill you.”
Crew members in the video can be heard saying, “Ma’am you need to take a seat we are landing,” and “Sarah step back, step back Sarah … you’re out of line.” Flight attendants can also be seen trying to wrestle the woman back into her seat as panicked passengers look on.
The TikTok user who posted the video released further details about what she witnessed in a follow-up post.
“The lady definitely had something a little mentally off … a little earlier in the flight she was yelling some gibberish, things no one could understand, and that Jesus Christ her savior was going to save her.” The user says the incident started at around 6:00 AM as the plane was landing. “When you land you’re told to stay in your seat, she decided to head to the restroom with her baby. They said ma’am please sit down that’s when I decided to start recording because she refused to sit down and started pushing the flight attendant saying she was going to kill her.”
Another video on Twitter shows the woman standing up while screaming and yelling “Where is it?!” As she holds her crying child and crew members rush to confront her.
The chaotic episode resulted in United Flight 476 making a quick landing at Chicago O’Hare airport.
The Chicago Police Department arrived at the gate where the plane landed close to 6:00 a.m. and escorted the woman off of the flight. Three occupants onboard were transported to Resurrection Hospital, police say. No one was seriously injured.
The FBI is now investigating the incident.
