SANTA MONICA, Calif.—A woman suspected of kidnapping a 4-year-old girl from a Santa Monica restaurant Friday, July 12, was taken into custody.

Officers responded to the 1900 block of Lincoln Boulevard around 12:10 p.m. Friday regarding a “frantic call” from the girl’s grandmother, who said the child had been kidnapped, according to the Santa Monica Police Department.

“The first officers were on the scene within minutes of the call being dispatched, gathering video images of the probable kidnapper and child to send additional units who were on their way,” police said in a statement.

Investigators located the woman, described only as being in her 30s, at the Holiday Motel near 11th Street and Pico Boulevard around 12:35 p.m. The child was also found safe.

“Our heartfelt best wishes go out to the child and her family as they deal with the shock of this ordeal,” police said in a statement. “We will do everything we can to make sure they are helped through this time and also to make sure no stone is left unturned in the investigation.”

The woman, whose name was not immediately released, was booked on suspicion of kidnapping.
